This is a pile-less carpet – a flat stitched rug without nap. It is woven on warp threads the same as any other rug and the surface is sooth. The distinguishing feature of this rug is the loose ends of stitch yarn at the back of the rug, about the same effect as we find in the Cashmere shawl. The designs are very much like those in many Caucasian rugs, and were almost invariably geometric in design.
