About Rouzati

(Conveniently located at the corner of Wilmette Ave. and Green Bay Rd. in Wilmette, Illinois)

“Trust is the centerpiece of our business.”

For the past 24 years, Jafar Rouzati has been at the helm of his family’s business, serving Chicago’s North-Shore and Gold Coast area with authentic antique and oriental rugs Chicago.
Just as family businesses are passed from one generation to the other, the same holds true for most antique rugs. Rouzati is inspired by the tradition behind these works of art. “Our inspiration not only comes from tradition, but trends also,” states Rouzati. “By pairing those two elements, we achieve the uniqueness of our shop design for which we’re known.”

Jafar Rouzati, an endearing, soft-spoken man, is sitting in a cramped office in his Wilmette store on north Green Bay Road discoursing with evident fervor on his personal passion and profession: oriental rugs. Listening to Mr. Rouzati discussing the handmade oriental rug and its essential components—the rug’s woof and warp, its unique design and color, the number of knots per square inch—one gets the impression one is listening to a museum curator. In fact, Mr. Rouzati is a curator de facto, one who, with nearly a glance, is able to identify a fabricated rug from an authentic creation; identify the rug’s country of origin; in many instances, even the remote village or tribe which produced it; when in time it was woven; and above all, the rug’s intrinsic value.

“Trust is the centerpiece of our business,” says Mr. Rouzati, a native of Isfahan, an ancient central Iranian city with a proud and storied history reaching back to the 10th century. “We have been in business for nearly three decades now and I dare say we have achieved that trust with our customers along the way because rugs are what we do. Rugs are what we know. Many of our customers, most from the North Shore, come to us through word of mouth.”

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.”

Rugs have been in my life, since childhood. Within our showroom, I used to jump from pile to pile as a kid. The rug business has always had a special place in my heart, and I feel fortunate enough to extend the tradition into my generation.

My vision comes from an innate ability to listen to a client’s needs, along with knowledge on current styles and trends. Through my father’s extended expertise and my modern outlook, Rouzati Rugs has developed into a versatile rug retailer – catering to modern, transitional, and antique decor.
