This antique Northwest Persian Kilim is an authentic “bagface,” originally part of a large, box-like woven cargo bag known as a Mafrash. The design is divided into three distinct horizontal panels: two outer sections featuring a dense, polychromatic diamond lattice, and a central panel of undyed camel-colored wool. The lattice panels are rich with geometric tribal motifs rendered in deep indigo, madder red, and saffron yellow. Small, scattered “charms” and thin horizontal stripes populate the central field, showcasing the spontaneous and individualistic expression typical of nomadic weavers.
Hand-woven using a flatweave (Kilim) technique, this piece highlights the incredible durability and artistry of utilitarian tribal objects. Its raw, organic texture and bold geometric transitions make it a captivating wall hanging or a unique floor accent for a rustic or global-inspired interior.
