  • Magnificent Moharramati – 1900s Antique Shirvan Runner – Caucasian Rug – 3’5″ x 9′ ft $2,999.99

    “Size: 3’5″” x 9′ ft
The Caucasian carpets are from the areas south, east and north of the mountain chain of the Caucasus. Carpets, made before 1925, can be divided into five groups namely; Kazak, Karabach, Sjirvan, Kuba and Dagestan carpets. The carpets from the Karabach area often have finer patterns. The significance of these beautiful carpets are their geometrical patterns, often with an imaginative and plentiful way of expression. Sometimes curvilinear animal and pattern figures occur in the carpets.
Fair condition! No stains, no odor. Sides and ends original. Contains low pile with some worn areas. As shown in pictures.

  • Amazing Azerbaijani – 1870s Antique Karadagh Rug – Tribal Runner – 3’8″ x 10’8″ ft $1,999.99

    “Size: 3’8″” x 10’8″” ft
Karadagh rugs can be some of the finest village rugs woven in Northwest Persia. This colorful and elegant runner is an extraordinary example of its type. The wool is exceptionally lush and soft, and the drawing and spacing are beautifully executed. In this rug, a column of colorful diamonds and lobed ornaments are traced against a deep indigo ground. These lobed ornaments combine classic Persian motifs, including palmettes and lobed quatrefoil medallions, with quintessentially tribal elements such as latch-hook diamonds. The thin, radial projections emanating from several of the design elements recall drawing from rugs of both the neighboring Caucasus region and more distant Central Asia. These motifs point to the possibility of a Shahsevan tribal weaver. A rust ground main border decorated with linked, abstracted floral motifs, which is the defining Karadagh border, frames the field.
Fair condition! No stains, no odor. Sides and ends original. Low pile with worn areas. As shown in pictures.

  • Opulent Oushak – 1910s Antique Turkish Rug – Tribal Gallery Runner – 5′ x 13′ ft $3,599.99

    “Size: 5′ x 13′ ft.
Antique Oushak rugs have been woven in Western Turkey since the beginning of the Ottoman period. Historians attributed to them many of the great masterpieces of early Turkish carpet weaving from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries. However, less is known about what happened to production there in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. When things become clearer toward 1900, the Oushak region re-emerges as a major center, this time for room-size decorative rugs. Antique Turkish carpets such as these are desirable today as highly decorative pieces. They come in central medallion designs as well as patterns of smaller allover medallions or scattered sprays of vine scroll and palmettes. They are notable for the grand, monumental scale of the designs, often a subdued palette in soft apricot and golden saffron tones whose pleasing qualities are enhanced by their particularly soft and lustrous wool.

  • Handsome Hereke – 1920s Antique Turkish Rug – Oriental Runner- 3’6″ x 9’7″ ft $1,499.99

    “Size: 3’6″” x 9’7″” ft.
Woven in the town of Hereke, in a factory established by the Sultan of Turkey and subsidized by him. The majority of these used traditional oriental designs instead of their own Turkish design. Master weavers were imported to weave and supervise the weaving. This accounts for the fact that many of these – perhaps half of the output – were in oriental designs. Many did employ the designs of the famous Turkish Ghiordes.
Good condition! Professionally washed and cleaned. No stains, no odor. Sides and ends original. As shown in pictures.

  • Tremendous Turkish – 1940s Antique Konya Rug – Oushak Runner – 3′ x 5’5″ ft $899.99

    “Size: 3′ x 5’5″” ft.
In 1292, Marco Polo was the first to make mention of the Konya carpets in writing when he called them the most beautiful in the world. Konya carpets are named for the region in which they were made. Renamed from the Greek “Iconium” when the Seljuk Sultans of Rum made it their capital, Konya is one of the largest, oldest and continuously occupied cities in Asia Minor. When Polo wrote of the Konyas, he had probably seen them in manufactories that were attached to the Seljuk courts. In the early 20th century, large carpets were found in the Alaadin Mosque in Konya; they are now housed in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Istanbul. Scholars and collectors alike, primarily for their bold tribal designs and magnificent color combinations not to mention their rarity, covet Konya rugs.
Konya rugs being made today include those coming from surrounding regions: Dauac, Kesimuslu, Karapinan, Obruk and Taspinar. All of these regions are included in “”Greater Konya””, although distinctions can be made between types. Nomadic rugs falling under the Konya region are also known as Yörüks. In a sense Konyas are the Turkish counterparts to Caucasian Kazakhs, though they are generally older and far rarer, and are no less sought after by collectors.
Konya rugs are prized for their luxurious wool, which comes from the rural areas surrounding the city. The wool from these regions is known to be some of the richest worldwide.
Incorporated within Konya carpets are hexagonal and basic figures. These patterns are tribal motifs. Geometries are either arranged in neat rows or staggered throughout the field. A common geometric motif is the “”Memling gul””, a geometric medallion patterned throughout the carpet. These rugs also feature a fairly loose knotting technique.
