This antique 1880s Persian Kurdish runner measures 3’6″ x 13’2″ and features a dense, all-over geometric tribal pattern. The central field is populated with a tightly repeating lattice of stylized geometric motifs, characteristic of historic nomadic Kurdish weaving. The background exhibits dramatic natural dye variation, known as abrash, abruptly transitioning from a deep indigo blue at the ends to a highly oxidized, faded tan and brown across the center section. The repetitive motifs are rendered in factual tones of madder red, ivory, and soft orange. The interior field is framed by a highly detailed, layered border system. The light ivory inner guard stripe displays a repeating sequence of small, stylized tribal bird motifs. The primary border features an angular geometric floral meander set against a madder red ground, flanked by an outer navy guard band.
