To ensure the longevity and beauty of your hand-knotted rug, regular maintenance is essential. We recommend vacuuming your rug frequently, being careful to turn off the beater bar to prevent damaging the natural fibers and delicate fringe. If spills occur, blot the area immediately with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing, which can push the stain deeper. Rotating your piece every few months will help it wear evenly and minimize color fading from direct sunlight. Finally, to truly protect your investment, we advise having your rug professionally washed at our Evanston cleaning facility every few years to gently remove deeply embedded dirt and restore its original luster.

Description
Woven circa the 1940s, this Persian Malayer runner measures 3’2″ x 10’10” and is a striking example of northwestern Iranian craftsmanship. Malayer weavers are historically celebrated for expertly bridging the gap between sweeping, formal city carpets and the deeply geometric, highly structured artistry of nomadic tribal rugs. This vintage piece utilizes a classic “pole medallion” composition. The central axis features four large, interconnected geometric medallions that rhythmically alternate between creamy ivory and warm rust-red. The dark, deeply saturated earthy brown field surrounding these central forms is heavily adorned with stylized botanical motifs and angular boteh (paisley) figures. Providing important historical context, the boteh motif originally represented a stylized cypress tree, acting as an ancient Zoroastrian symbol of life, resilience, and eternity. This intricate, deeply symbolic interior is brilliantly framed by a high-contrast ivory primary border, which is densely woven with repeating geometric vines and traditional tribal rosettes. Crafted with resilient, high-quality Persian wool, this circa 1940s piece exhibits a beautifully aged, authentic patina that lends a relaxed, soulful aesthetic to its highly structured design. Its elongated proportions and rich, multi-colored palette make it a phenomenal foundation piece for sweeping transitional corridors, sophisticated entryways, or traditional gallery spaces.
