Karadagh rugs can be some of the finest village rugs woven in Northwest Persia. This colorful and elegant runner is an extraordinary example of its type. The wool is exceptionally lush and soft, and the drawing and spacing are beautifully executed. In this rug, a column of colorful diamonds and lobed ornaments are traced against a deep indigo ground. These lobed ornaments combine classic Persian motifs, including palmettes and lobed quatrefoil medallions, with quintessentially tribal elements such as latch-hook diamonds. The thin, radial projections emanating from several of the design elements recall drawing from rugs of both the neighboring Caucasus region and more distant Central Asia. These motifs point to the possibility of a Shahsevan tribal weaver. A rust ground main border decorated with linked, abstracted floral motifs, which is the defining Karadagh border, frames the field.

Antique Bessarabian Kilims and rugs in both pile and tapestry weaving technique are some of the more beautiful carpets to have been produced in Europe. Many of the Bessarabian Kilims were woven around the mid to late 19th century, though some do date back to the 18th century as well. This production that carried into the early twentieth century under late Ottoman Turkish rule in an area corresponding to modern Bulgaria and Romania, they stand right on the cusp of European and Oriental carpet weaving. Many of the designs are floral patterns made in a naturalistic western style utilizing brown or black ground, not unlike certain Karabaghs from the Caucauses. But others, particularly flat weaves, reflect the tradition of Turkish kilims from nearby Anatolia, although in a distinctive Bessarbian palette. In either case they are supremely decorative rugs.

Kazaks are thick piled Caucasian rugs. The Kazaks are geometric in design. They were made in many designs and are among the boldest and most colorful of old Caucasian rugs. Few rugs have a heavier nap of finer wool. In spite of a medium to coarse weave, they have proved to be one of the most durable rugs ever made. Their patterns are generally large.
Kazaks are one of the most delightful and sought after rugs today, not only by Americans, but by European buyers who come to American in great numbers to seek old Caucasian rugs.

Bessarabian rugs and carpets are the commonly given name for rugs in pile and tapestry technique originating in Russian provinces as well as Ukraine and Moldova during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.1 Some scholars will classify flat-woven carpets as Bessarabian, while referring to knotted-pile carpets as Ukrainian.2 They are predominantly from an area corresponding to modern Bulgaria and Romania. Produced under late Ottoman rule, they stand right on the cusp of European and Oriental carpet weaving.
All works of the Bessarabian category are highly decorative. Not dissimilar to particular Karabaghs from the Caucasus, many of the designs crafted in Bessarabian carpets are floral in motif. The designs usually fit within a black or brown tone background, executed in a naturalistic western. Some pieces, in particular the flat-weaves, are woven with the distinctive Bessarabian palette in the tradition of kilim rugs from nearby Anatolia.

India continues to be the largest oriental rug exporter in the world. The country is known for its diversity of both traditional and modern designs. Indian rugs often contain slightly coarser wool than other Persian rugs, making them heavy and very durable.
Modern Indian rugs usually can be distinguished from, say, Pakistani rugs by their very heavy body and stiff handle and the fact that their selvages are added after the rugs are woven and are not an integral part of it.. In recent years, India has begun producing machine-made oriental rugs. Machine made rugs are an entirely different quality than 100% wool hand knotted rugs.
In addition to high-quality, hand-knotted rugs. Modern Indian rugs usually can be distinguished from, say, Pakistani rugs by their very heavy body and stiff handle, their fat weft threads,
