Size: 3’5″ x 6’2″ ft. – Collectible item with oxidized colors!
Baluchi tribes live in black tents. Their rugs are woven on horizontal (flat) looms. There are several different tribes of Eluchi with different names. The principal colors used are three shades of dark red, two shades of blue, tan or brown, with tinges of iveory and other colors. The color effect generally is that of dark, somber red, mahogany, wine or brown. Up until World War II, all Balouchistan came with woolen warp, and had a wide kilim effect on each end. Today many of these are being made with cotton warp, which makes for a straighter rug that will lie flat.
Fair condition! No stains, no odor. Sides and ends original. Contains low pile, worn spots, and unraveled ends – as shown in pictures.

All different types of rugs that are classed as Turkoman rugs are known by the laymen and most dealers as Bokharas, and this is a general term. They generally originate from the city of Bokhara in Soviet€™s Turkmen. Few rugs were ever woven there, but it was the market place for many types of Turkomen rugs, and the reason why the name Bokhar was given to these rugs. New Bokharas were generally made in northeast of Iran. They crossed into Iran from the Turkmen Socialist Soviet Republic (S.S.R. of Turkmen).

The fine wool-on-wool Turkish rugs woven in Bergama used only the finest quality fleece. Kazak-influenced Bergama carpets are often identified by their distinctive red wefts. Their varied styles include compartmental medallions, directional prayer niches, Kuba-style Leshgi stars and Memling guls. The local carpet-weaving tradition in Bergama began before the 1300’s and continued through the 20th century. Historically, Bergama was one of Anatolia’s wealthiest cities and an influential carpet producer. The decorative elements featured in Turkish Bergama carpets undoubtedly inspired the Old Masters. Designs found in these historic carpets are inextricably associated with European painters, including Lotto, Memling, Bellini and Holbein, whose names have come to describe these iconic designs. Each Bergama carpet features a stunning array of traditional symbols that have a universal meaning that transcends national borders. The style, color and symbolism of these unique Turkish carpets make them popular design pieces. These colorful rugs embody years of superstition and culture that are carefully represented through the use of artistic devices. Superficially, Bergama carpets are highly decorative, but they are also made from fine materials and packed with powerful symbols that contribute tangible and intangible qualities to these sophisticated pieces. Although Bergama rugs feature tribal designs and decorative symbols that have rustic, ethnic sensibilities, they are equally suited for contemporary and classically modern interiors. Bergama rugs (alt. Bergamo carpets) are made in the historic town of Bergama in northwest Turkey. The style of these rugs is neither Greek nor Turkish but rather resembles Kazaks and Gendje rugs of the Caucasus. The large bold geometric patterns are highly varied. The palate is typically brick red, dark blue and white although older rugs have some green and yellow. The pile is luxurious, long and silky. These antique rugs have woven bands of red, blue or red-and-blue stripe at the ends and are often square with either formal or tribal influences. Good condition! No stains, no odor. Sides and ends original. Contains medium low pile. As shown in pictures.

Size: 10’3″ x 14’4″ ft. Antique Oushak rugs have been woven in Western Turkey since the beginning of the Ottoman period. Historians attributed to them many of the great masterpieces of early Turkish carpet weaving from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries. However, less is known about what happened to production there in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. When things become clearer toward 1900, the Oushak region re-emerges as a major center, this time for room-size decorative rugs. Antique Turkish carpets such as these are desirable today as highly decorative pieces. They come in central medallion designs as well as patterns of smaller allover medallions or scattered sprays of vine scroll and palmettes. They are notable for the grand, monumental scale of the designs, often a subdued palette in soft apricot and golden saffron tones whose pleasing qualities are enhanced by their particularly soft and lustrous wool. (Description from Nazymial Antique Rugs – the purchase of this rug has no relation to Nazymial) Good condition! No stains, no odor. Sides and ends original. Medium low pile. Kilim, a word of Turkish origin, denotes a pileless textile of many uses produced by one of several flatweaving techniques that have a common or closely related heritage and are practiced in the geographical area that includes parts of Turkey (Anatolia and Thrace), North Africa, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia and China.
Although at times you may find kilim rugs included in the general genre of “oriental rugs”, in more accepted practice kilims are in a class of their own.
The major difference between a kilim area rug and a carpet or a pile rug is that whereas the design visible on a pile rugs is made by individual short strands of different color being knotted onto the warps and held together by pressing the wefts tightly, kilim designs are made by interweaving the variously colored wefts and warps, thus creating what is known as a flatweave.
