Special Samarkand - 1890s Antique Khotan Rug - East Turkestan Carpet 6'3" x 12'5" ft

Size: 6’3″ x 12’5″ ft.

Made in Central Asia, in the vicinity of the city by the name of Samarkand in Uzbekistan (former East Turkestan), and marketed in that city. These rugs generally show Chinese influence, and the field is usually covered with intricate Chinese motifs. Designs in the field are round medallions or polygons. Other Chinese motifs such as dragons, Chinese cloud banks, flowers, and birds are used. The unique designs, colors, and the fine silky wool quality of these rugs are what truly make them special.

Fair condition! No odor. Sides and ends original. Contains low pile and minor worn spots – as shown in pictures.
